Today in lectures we continued looking at early modern background. The particular figures we discussed were Bacon, and, to a somewhat greater extent, Hobbes.

The readings for next week are from Descartes: Meditations I and II (required); Synopsis (optional).

The options for the essay were handed out today; the full instructions on how to write your essay will be handed out next week. The essay itself is due November 8.

Don’t forget that I will be in the Department of Philosophy lounge (10th floor, 215 Huron) tomorrow (Wednesday) from 2:30-4:30. Starting next week I’ll have regular office hours (see previous post).
